October 15, 2014:
Hello Parents,
Second nine weeks has begun! I am finalizing grades at this time, and report cards will be coming home Friday, October 17. The hard work the students put forth during the first nine weeks made them sparkle! Most of the students know how challenging fifth grade is, and I am so proud of them for persevering. I can't wait to see them continue to shine during the rest of the year! The passion for reading and writing, that I observe in my class, is definitely going to allow them to reach their potential. For example, I shared reading levels with you at conferences, there is no doubt that most of the students will increase their reading level by 1 or 2 levels within the next couple of months due to their motivation for learning. Please continue to have them read each night for about 20 minutes.
I want to thank all of you that donated Lysol wipes and Lysol spray.
At this time, we are running low on computer white paper, dry erase markers, individually wrapped candy, and staples. If you are able to send in any of these items, we would greatly appreciate it!
Thank you so much for your support! Have a great weekend!

VERY IMPORTANT FROM ADMINISTRATION:
We continue to focus on safety this year. No child will be without an adult escort when outside the school building. You may notice when you come to check out your child, if the student is in PE or on the playground, you will be given a pass to collect the student from these locations. Once you have retrieved your child from outside, if you need to return to the building, you will need to walk around to the front entrance to access the school. We will not have any other outside doors unlocked. Please allow extra time for this when checking out your child. I appreciate your continuous support.

Reminder from Mrs. Peery (Our new Office Clerk for attendance and registration):
Please remember that if your child is absent from school, you need to send a hand written note to the school stating the reason for his or her absence. The note should be sent on the day your student returns to school, but no later than one week afterwards.
Grade books:
I will update my grade books weekly - typically on Monday. Please check your child's grade books. If your child has "not turned in" an assignment, there will be an "NTI" where their grade should be placed. Your child may still turn in their work. However, it is our goal to meet our deadlines on time. Please talk to your child about the importance of turning in work when it is due.
